BODIES IN TRAUMA

Using color and body language to express emotions of chaos, pain, and disconnection, Bodies in Trauma confronts the seriousness of mental health, healing, and the detrimental destruction it can cause within us if ignored. Trauma can be communicated verbally and nonverbally, and in order to help others and even ourselves, we must be aware of it first.
Bodies in Trauma (2017) works as a two-part project, both a short film and a photo series, focusing on the pain, chaos, and disconnection trauma leaves behind in our bodies. A few months into therapy, my therapist encouraged me to take a 16-week group class titled, Bodies and Trauma. In this class, I learned what trauma is (a loss of connection to ourselves, our bodies, our families, and the world around us) and how it is stored in our bodies, even if the traumatic event(s) happened years prior or in early childhood.
